Tradesman TMT2 Snips

TMT2 Using the exact same handles and blades as the TMT1 Multi-Tool, the TMT2 model substitutes a set of spring loaded shears in place of the plier head. The result is a multi-purpose tool that is capable of cutting a variety of materials, everything from paper on up to light gauge sheetmetal. Surprisingly, the only other mainline multitools with this capability are the Bear Jaws 157SM and 157GT models. At this time, the TMT2 has been out of production since Schrade went under in 2004.

Handles/Frame

  • Handles are high impact plastic, molded over a stainless steel channel.
  • In the open position, the handles have an S-shaped contour to the gripping surface. This contour seems to have no redeeming qualities; it simply makes the tool feel awkward when squeezing the shears.
  • A plastic logo insert is inlayed into one handle. Presumably this is so the TMT2 could be easily rebranded and marketed under a variety of different brands. However, it has only been noted with the TRADESMAN logo.
  • Pivot screws are hex drive.

Jaws

  • Jaws are medium-duty shears.
  • Fine serrations run the full length of the upper jaw cutting surface. The lower jaw has a plain edge.
  • Spring loaded.
  • A tab rotates into place to hold the jaws closed when not in use.
  • Polished stainless finish.

Blades and Tools

  • Clip point knife blade, with plain edge. Measures 2-1/4" long (60mm)
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Sheepsfoot blade, with fully serrated edge. Measures 2" long (50mm)
  • Large flathead screwdriver, with V-notch along one side for stripping wire
  • Combination medium flathead screwdriver/bottle opener
  • Small eyeglass screwdriver
  • Can opener

Blade and Tool Particulars

  • None of the blades lock open.
  • All of the blades have a extremely high polish, resulting in rounded surfaces. In the case of the phillips screwdriver, this rounding effect renders the drive nearly unusable.
  • Plastic blade assists are located in each handle. A small "ledge" on the assist helps to lift out a neighboring blade or tool for easy access. In one handle the assist functions with the phillips screwdriver. (see left hand photo below) In the other handle the assist works with the eyeglass screwdriver and the bottle opener.

Sheath

Sheath is woven nylon with a velcro closure. Belt loop for vertical carry only.

Dimensions

  • Length open = 6-1/2" (165mm)
  • Length closed = 4-1/4" (110mm)
  • Width closed = 1-5/8" (42mm)
  • Thickness = 5/8" (18mm)
  • Weight = 5.0 oz (142g)
