Background

Buck Knives can trace it's history back to 1902, when young Kansas blacksmith apprentice Hoyt Buck developed a process for tempering steel so it would hold an edge better. Hoyt made each knife by hand, using worn-out file blades as his raw material. During World War II, he made as many as he could to help America's war effort. After the war, Hoyt moved to San Diego, where he and his oldest son, Al, formed H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al carried on when Hoyt died in 1949 and led the company through the next critical years in its history.

Buck was still making knives from discarded file blades until the early 1960's. In 1963, Al Buck designed the successful Model 110 Folding Hunter, a lockblade that firmly established the company in the folding knife market. In 1996 the ))BuckTool(( 360 was introduced, the first of several innovative multitools bearing the famous Buck logo.

Today, Buck Knives is headquartered in Post Falls, Idaho, and is lead by the third and fourth generations of the Buck family.
